Dave Whiffin: Guitar and Vocals
To be honest, the band is called "The Dave Whiffin Band" because I couldn't think
of a good name, and I was sick of changing band names when band members left! I
do run the band and sing a lot of the vocals, but I am only a third of the band.
I have been playing live regularly since I was 16. When I was 18 I spent a while touring with a reformation of The Animals. Since then I have been writing and recording my own material in addition to playing in a range of bands at pubs, clubs, functions.
My background is bluesy rock, and obviously Clapton, Hendrix and SRV were my first guitar heroes. But my influences have extended a lot across a range of rock bands, singer songwriters and guitar virtuos's.
Currently I am working hard on my acoustic playing (mainly because having a family means I can't play as loud as I used to!). I have almost an album's worth of original material that I am looking to introduce in to the live set.
Ian Halford: Drums and Vocals
I met Ian when he joined "The Watts n Whiffin Big Band". Since then I have taken advantage of his singing as much as possible!
Ian's background ranges from playing drums in Thailand, to singing lead vocals in North East clubs, to playing in a jazz fuzion line up, to playing rock drums with Russ Tippins.
Ian and John make up an awesome team and can also be seen playing in The Russ Tippins Electric Band.
John Dawson: Bass and Backing Vocals
John has been a regular on the North East pub and club scene. I met him whilst he was playing with Jimi Savage, a North East guitar teacher who is well known in Rock and guitar magazine circles. John joined "The Watts n Whiffin Band" in the early days and his groove were a key part of it's success.
John and Ian play with Russ Tippins. John also plays a big part in a progressive rock project which looks like it might take off in 2012.
